Being Left Behind

By the end of September, a heavy flow of Bruneian students will make their way towards their respective educational institutions abroad after qualifying and achieving various scholarship programmes offered by the government or private institutions. They will be on their way to fulfil their lifelong dreams of a high standard education abroad with a different culture and way of life. I congratulate them and wish them good luck for their studies. But I write this article not for those who are going, but to those who have been left behind.

If I’m home, why doesn’t it feel like it?

Third Culture Kids (TCK) is a phenomenon that happens to children when they are brought up in another country other than their country of origin stated in their passport. It isn’t like a child that has been brought up in neighborly Malaysia for his or her whole life and is suddenly brought over to Brunei to live in. It is the total transformation of one’s way of life to another that is totally different; such as the language, culture, people, food, weather, and even the time when the sun rises and sets.

Cyclists vs Motorists: The Battle of the Road………..Tax?

Hello fellow cycling enthusiasts,

I recently watched a new movie trailer ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’, a 2015 sequel of the Mad Max movie franchise starring Tom Hardy as the iconic Mel Gibson character ‘Mad Max’. A post-apocalyptic world where people live in the desert wasteland fighting over water and fuel (what a sad world to live in). However, seeing that they are fighting over fuel for their transportation (and mauling) needs, I have a solution for their conundrum. Since they still have roads, why not use BICYCLES!?!? Thus less reliant on fuel. Now they just need to fight over food.

But before we start preparing for the end of the modern world, let’s expand more on the idea of seeing bicycles as the solution.
